Beautiful verge fusee watch in golden pair case from mid-XVIII century.
Diameter of outer case is 46mm, inner case is 40mm.
Total weight is 93 grams.
Watch is equipped with 1/8 repeater, not often to see.
It strikes hours, quarters and half-quarters.
The movement is signed by C. Cabrier in London.
Baillie records Charles Cabrier, son in London, apprenticed in 1719, member of Clockmaking company 1726, master of CC 1757-1772, famous maker.
Both cases are made of solid gold, tested for 14k or greater.
Outer repoussé case bears scene depicting
Alexander the Great and Roxana.
Alexander reportedly fell in love with Roxana (daughter of Persian nobleman) on sight; in 327 BC, Alexander married Roxana despite the strong opposition from all his companions and generals.
Condition
Condition is rather fine.
Movement is running in every position though I don't guarantee time keeping.
Outer case has is in perfect condition with fine details nicely preserved.
Inner case has minor traces of hard soldering.
The bell is also soldered.
Otherwise nice condition.
