Beautiful thick and heavy pair cased verge fusee watch.
Diameter of outer case is 54mm, thickness is 28mm, weight is 114 grams.
Outer case is decorated with enamel portrait of King of France Louis XV according to gravure of Pierre Dupin (1690-1751).
Movement is signed by Cabrier London, but looks as Netherland production from 1740s.
The watch should be souvenir from the War of the Austrian Succession (1740-1748). In 1744, the Netherlands became the primary battlefield of the war. Frederick the Great decided to rejoin the war on the French side. Louis XV left Versailles to lead his armies in the Netherlands in person. At the Battle of Fontenoy on 11 May 1745, Louis came under fire for the first time and witnessed a French victory over combined British, Dutch and Austrian forces.
In 1746 French forces besieged and occupied Brussels, which Louis entered in triumph.
By the summer of 1747 France occupied the entire Austrian Netherlands (modern-day Belgium).
Watch features silver champleve dial with day indications.
Verge fusee movement is made in typical Dutch style of 1730-1750, with rather big balance bridge, cut and pierced surroundings, endless screw barrel stopwork, square baluster pillars.
Nice period movement.
